QUATUOR BÉLA — SOFIA AVRAMIDOU

For this programme, Quatuor Béla highlights the talent and imagination of Greek composer Sofia Avramidou, one of the most singular voices of her generation.

Trained both in classical singing and in the traditional music of the Mediterranean, and also a multi-instrumentalist, Sofia Avramidou develops a musical language rooted in these multiple influences. Her experience as a performer, together with her research in electroacoustic music at IRCAM, gives her works a distinctive sonic density and originality.

Quatuor Béla naturally commissioned a new work from the composer, whose fascination with folk traditions, mythology and imaginary worlds resonates deeply with the ensemble’s own artistic universe. This new creation will be presented alongside What can that be but my apple-tree?, a string quartet inspired by a Grimm tale.

The programme also brings together three emblematic figures connected to the composer’s musical world: Ivan Fedele (her teacher), Franz Schubert and Henry Purcell.
